Boca Grande Report
9/18/01
Things are finally back to normal around here after a week from hell. Tuesdays attacks took the wind out of my sails, but I recovered fast. Then Friday morning brought tropical storm Gabbrielle and a lot of damage to our community. Lost power, phone and cable for three days, took a glancing blow from a large tree from my neighbors yard, and a lot more.
The "Gypsy" made it through fine and we're ready to go fishing again. Reports from Boca Grande have been positive. The water is clear on the flats but with a tannin stain, The redfish and snook are still active on the outside flats of Bull Bay and Turtle Bay. Seatrout are productive on the grass just west of Cape Haze. Big jacks are busting bait at the phosphate dock and around the passes.
As we approach this new moon fishing should take off like a rocket. There is plenty of bait and the water has cooled a bit. Watch for cobia action to pick up soon. The beaches should also produce good catches of Spanish mackerel. Redfish and snook will be consistent this month and an occasional tarpon will show up.
This is my favorite time to fish. If you want exciting action with very few anglers now is the time to go.
Tight Lines, Capt. Pete
