REPORT:
Jeffrey Wible and I fished for LARGEMOUTH BASS on Sunday, 05/17/98, from 7:18 AM until 3:40 PM, on the Dundee and Saltpeter Creeks. All bass were caught on lures using light spinning or baitcasting equipment, measured and released.
There are some excellent grass beds located in the Dundee and Saltpeter Creeks. Look for grass offshore and in chunks. The larger bass were caught near thick grass.
TOTAL LARGEMOUTH BASS CAUGHT WAS 11. The bass ranged from 10 inches to 19 inches, with 3 bass 15 inches or over. Average size was 13.50 inches. 6 were caught on the outgoing tide and 5 were caught on the incoming tide. The biggest Largemouth was caught by Jeffrey on a Manns, Baby 1-Minus in Fire Shad. Nice catch Jeffrey!
Bass were located on points containing grass chunks just out from the shoreline in water 4 1/2 feet or less. The tide was outgoing when we started. Bass were caught at different times throughout the day.
MOST PRODUCTIVE LURE-Yamamoto, Single Tail Grub, 5 inch, No. 221, Cinnamon w/Black & Purple fished on a 1/8 ounce Oldham’s Weedless Moss Head Screwlock Jig Head.
MOST PRODUCTIVE TECHNIQUE-Worming technique. The grub was lifted of off the bottom (lift the rod tip from 9 o’clock to 11 o’clock) at a medium speed. The bass become more active as the water warms.

FISHING TIP
Oldhams Weedless Moss Head Screwlock Jig are excellent in all type of grass, from thin to thick. The unique head design allows penetration of heavy cover, vegetation and rocky shorelines with less fouling of your bait. They come in 1/8 and 1/4 once and both have a 3/0 hook. They are available from The Bass Pro Shops 1998 Fishing Catalog and can be seen on page 180.
Good Fishing…..Tom Hughes
