Fished for: Striped Bass
Date Fished: 8/9/98
Boat Name:
Water Temp: 82 Degrees
Water Clarity: 1 Foot
Seas: Slight Chop
Weather: Partly Sunny

REPORT:
Jeffrey Wible and I fished for STRIPED BASS on Sunday, 8/09/98, from 12:55 PM until 4:14 PM on the Patapsco River & Curtis Creek. Fished areas from South
Locust Point Marine Terminal to Seagrit Marine Terminal.

The color of the water was red, denoting a red tide had set in. This type of tide takes the oxygen out of the water. The Striped Bass will move into other areas until
this passes. We located Stripers in deep water to 24 feet and where current forced water up over a structure, into the air, and then back down into the surrounding
waters, similar to what an aerator in your livewell does.

All fish were caught on light spinning and baitcasting equipment and released.

WATER CONDITION: The current was outgoing when we started. A red tide had set in all the areas we fished.

STRUCTURES FISHED: Underwater mound, pilings, docks, rock piles and points.

LURES USED: Soft plastic baits rigged on 1/4 ounce round head jigs, lip less vibrating crankbaits, top water poppers, suspended jerkbaits, and jigging spoons.

TOTAL STRIPED BASS CAUGHT WAS 30. The Stripers ranged from 10 inches to 23 inches Jeffrey landed 1 large Striper measuring 23 inches. Nice catch
Jeffrey.

NUMBER OF STRIPERS CAUGHT DURING THIS TIDE:

0 - Incoming

22 - Outgoing

8 - Still

MOST PRODUCTIVE LURE: Bass Assassin, Salt Water 4" Sea Shad in Shrimp, #SSA25409, fished on a 1/4 ounce round head jig with a barbless hook.

MOST PRODUCTIVE TECHNIQUE: Jig & Stop-cast the lure out let it drop to the desired depth (drops 1 foot per second), then lift your rod tip swiftly from 9
o’clock to 11 o’clock while taking up the slack line-pause for 1 second. Repeat this again and again, until the lure is back at the boat. The Stripers usually take the
bait on the fall.

OTHER PRODUCTIVE LURES THIS TRIP:

Bass Assassin, Salt Water, Curly Shad, Soft Plastic Bait, 4" in the following colors;

Albino/Fire Tail, #CSA27240

Salt & Pepper Silver Phantom, #CSA27336

White, #CSA27108

Bass Assassin, Salt Water, Sea Shad, Soft Plastic Bait, 4" in the following colors;

Blue Pearl, #SSA25369

Mirror Green, #SSA25368

Rainbow Trout #SSA25132

FISHING TIP:

Look for structures that create oxygen. These locations are very productive when the tide is still, the water is muddy, or when a red tide sets in. The water color in
these locations is usually lighter then the surrounding waters.
