REPORT
Brandon White and I fished on Saturday, 11/07/98 from 7:15 AM until 11:50 PM, in the Baltimore Harbor and on the Patapsco River. We fished from Ft. McHenry Point south to Cox Creek.
All fish were caught on light spinning and bait casting equipment using artificial lures. All Striped Bass were released.
LURES USED: soft plastic baits rigged on 1/4, 3/8 ounce round head jigs or 3/8 ounce tube jigs, lipless vibrating crankbaits, suspended crankbaits and jigging spoons.
TOTAL STRIPED BASS CAUGHT WAS 45. The Stripers ranged in length from 10" to 32". The most productive structure was a creek point. Landed 4 Stripers between 18" and 32". We had our limit by 10:50 AM.
STRUCTURES FISHED: Points, shoals, underwater mounds, concrete pilings, wooden pilings, wooden bulkheads, diving seagulls and discharges.
NUMBER OF STRIPERS CAUGHT DURING THIS TIDE:
6 - Incoming
39 - Outgoing
0 - Still
BIGGEST STRIPER CAUGHT ON: BASS ASSASSIN, Split Tail Shad, Soft Plastic Bait, 4", Albino Shad, #STS38330. The tail was dipped in chartreuse dye and fished on a 1/4 ounce round head jig.
MOST PRODUCTIVE LURE: ZOOM, Super Fluke, Soft Plastic Bait, 4" , Arkansas Shiner fished on a 3/8 oz. jig head (10 Stripers).
MOST PRODUCTIVE TECHNIQUE: Jig & Stop-cast the lure out, let it drop to the desired depth (drops 1 foot per second), then lift your rod tip swiftly from 9 o’clock to 11 o’clock while taking up the slack line-pause for 1 second. Repeat this again and again, until the lure is back at the boat. The Stripers usually take the bait on the fall.
