REPORT

I fished for STRIPED BASS on Friday, 05/01/98, from 6:52 AM until 1:00 PM on the Patapsco River. The tide was incoming when I started. All Striped Bass were caught on lures using light spinning or baitcasting equipment. These Stripers were measured and returned to the water immediately.

TOTAL STRIPED BASS CAUGHT WAS 25. The Stripers ranged from 12 inches to 24 inches. Average size bass was 16 inches. 16 were caught on the incoming tide and 9 during the still tide.

Stripers were holding on pilings and bulkheads. The majority were caught on pilings and they were stacked up.

MOST PRODUCTIVE LURE-Bass Assassin, Shad Assassin, Soft Plastic Bait, 5", Black Shad, #SA10300

MOST PRODUCTIVE TECHNIQUE-Jigging the plastic baits as soon as they hit the water. The Stripers were in the 2 to 4 foot water column.

The following lure information is supplied for REFERENCE ONLY. It gives the readers an opportunity to see such lures through the Internet or in catalogs. THESE TYPES OF LURES ARE MADE BY OTHER MANUFACTURERS which may be just as, or more productive than, the lures listed. I do not work for any lure manufacturers below, but these lures have been productive this trip.

OTHER PRODUCTIVE LURES-starting with the most productive this trip:

Bass Assassin, Shad Assassin, Soft Plastic Bait, Black Shad, SA10300

Rapala, Original Floater Minnow, Floating/Diving Stickbait, Blue, Model F13

Fenwick, Shallow Crank, Shallow Running Crankbait, Chartreuse

Bass Assassin, Shad Assassin, Soft Plastic Bait, Salt & Pepper Silver Phantom, SA10336

Smithwich, Suspending Rattlin Pro Rogue, Suspended Jerkbait, Blue Back/White Sides, Model SDRC 1200

FISHING TIP

For better hook ups and to allow you a quick release of Striped Bass back into the water use barbless replacement hooks or crush the existing barbed hooks with a pair of pliers.

Good Fishing…..Tom Hughes
