REPORT:
Fishing with Kyle Cuttler, and Dustin Morgan, both expert anglers in the Northwest Cascade Mountains. Following their recommendation, we trolled with small trout Rappelas and managed to get a few strikes during the noon time hours. The sky was clear and the sun shining. There is still lots of snow in the area and only anglers with boats are working the lake. We saw 5 other boats. While cruising the shoreline we saw three large brooders. They were very healthy, fat, appx. 2 feet long each. Later in the after noon we caught two small Rainbow, 8 inchers on Chartreuse Power bait and very small treble hooks off the bottom at around 15 feet.
Later in the evening, 6PM til Dark, we caught more than a dozen last year 12 inchers (Rainbow) on small flies, mosquito and yellow bodies, size 10 to 12 hooks. Small schools will start feeding on the surface and you must row up on these schools in order to get hits. The schools leave the area as soon as the brooders come up to attack small rainbow. We had to chase schools around the south end of the lake in order to get flies to work.
No one is camping yet, there are still 2 foot drifts of snow. The water is very cold and very clear. The temperature drops fast after the sun goes down. The road up to the lake is totally clear and the boat launch has easy access. Good luck. picture of lake at:
